All You Nasty Girls….dun dun dun da dun dun dun….

perfect365

Miss Janet if you’re Nasty. Sorry I couldn’t not pay homage to Janet Jackson. I just finished the book #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso, the founder of Nasty Gal. And I MOTHERFREAKING LOVED IT!!! I had literally every other chick I knew telling me I HAD to read this book and it’s right up my alley and blah blah blah because I’m practically the Rick Ross pusher of Nasty Gal clothes on everyone that asks me where I buy most of my clothes.

And usually anytime too many people tell me to do something the more I will avoid it. Because I’m 7. But after I finished Patti Smith’s M Train for our fancy ass book club, a friend of mine and I did a good old fashioned book swap. She gifted me #Girlboss. And I think this is a book that every girl should read. Like, make it mandatory reading to seniors in high school, so that they actually finish HS and get their diploma. Because this book will make everyone want to start kicking ass and taking names immediately. It fired me up and reminded me so much about how I got to where I am now. By not following rules, starting your business aka my ‘TV hosting career” on the very very ground level and generating your own buzz and learning as you go. I read this book in like 2 days which is practically a Christmas miracle with my wild schedule. But baby wanted to drink from the fountain of knowledge of Sophia Amoruso.

Plus I already buy a crap ton of stuff from Nasty Gal, so I might as well cover all the bases. Infact I’m wearing a Nasty Gal lace top as I type this. BOOM!!

Here’s some of my favorite quotes from the book that I figured I’d share with you lovelies. I high recommend you give it a read!

“The only thing I smoke is my competition” – pg 3

“I don’t want you to look up, #GIRLBOSS, because all that looking up can keep you down. The energy you’ll expend focusing on someone else’s life is better spent working on your own” – pg 13 (on focusing too much on what the people around you are doing)

“You don’t have to choose between smart and sexy. You can have both. You are both.” -pg 15 (lesson I still struggle with. I practiced doing my makeup this weekend!)

“Money looks better in the bank than on your feet” – pg98

“You can’t convince someone else – whether it’s a potential employer, a loan officer at the car dealership, or someone you’ve been crushing on – that you’re amazing and terrific if you don’t actually think you are. This isn’t the false confidence that comes from getting a bunch of likes on your Instagram selfies, but a deep down unshakable self confidence that persists even when things aren’t going all that great.” – pg 120

“You have to kick someone out of your head as forcefully as you’d kick someone out of your house if you didn’t want them to be there” -pg 126 (on when someone is taking up too much damn space in your head. Either charge em rent or kick em to the curb)

“I like being myself. Myself and nasty” – Aldous Huxley  – pg 140

“Remember #GIRLBOSS: it’s not cool to get drunk on your own success” – pg 143

“You can have a ton of money and buy yourself all the designer goods you can stuff into the trunk of your Mercedes Benz, but no amount of money can buy you style” – pg 222

The shirt I’m wearing can be found here 🙂

  1. Renee Are we friends yet?🙁 By the way one of these days there will be a Q&A Vimeo video down here. You might like it, I don’t know, anyways. I want to read that book I’ll have to find it. I love your book choices by the way, and your style.😎😜

  2. Lol nothing to do with the book but more like your style because I am OBSESSED!! Anyway where did you get your sweater that you are wearing in the first book post that you made?

  3. It must be nice to get free things. You talk about Lauren Conrad posting about expensive clothing but here you are thinking we can afford $116 sweater.

    1. Well although I get where you’re coming from, I rarely get clothes for free. I try to do a pretty wide range of options on the things I post on. We all have different budgets! I really mostly just post on the clothes that I actual wear or the sites that I generally buy from.

  4. Best place to find this book?! A website? Bookstore suggestions?
I’m really intrigued. Even though it took me longer, I know that I want to pursue becoming an author myself and am putting in the ground work for my own event/wedding planner biz. I think that book might be the boost I need to keep pushing!

  5. Always looking for new books to add to my list =D if you liked it , its worth a look-see.. last few days i’ve been reading up on Maine since we’re fixing to move there (always room for you and yours at our manor lol) so this looks like a refreshing change

  6. “Money looks better in the bank than on your feet” – I need to take note of this. Great quotes.

Love the clothing range, thanks Reene. The top is lovely on you. Can you post more fashion advice please? I want to raid your entire wardrobe! X

  7. I’ve been told to read this book as well! I think it would do wonders for my confidence in life and business opportunities. Love the quote from page 120. How true that is! If you don’t have confidence and a belief in yourself it won’t matter who tells you you are awesome…you have to believe it first. Thanks for sharing Renee!!

  8. So I just bought the Australia Luxe boots that you have and was wondering if you put a protecting spray on it? I live in Michigan so I don’t want to damage them!

  9. So glad you read it! I read it two months ago and it was the kind of thing that from the start, I knew it would be life changing. Also, that line got me too, “the only thing I smoke is my competition”. As a straight edge female, that line spoke volumes to me! So many quotable lines in this book, motivation, and more! Great read that everyone should definitely read as you said! And the fact that both you and Amy Dumas, read it makes me love it even more!

  10. Ive been looking for this book for awhile but can’t find it anywhere ive checked at least three book stores and haven’t found it .. I live in Quebec so most books are french
